AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: Deborah Pettis, author of "Living Under the Influence"

Deborah PettisI am the youngest of three girls.  I have one daughter.  My mom who was my closest friend passed January 14, 2006.  I presently live in East St. Louis, Illinois.

I am currently employed as a teacher for the St. Louis Public Schools.

I am a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in East St. Louis, Rev. Dr. Norman E. Owens is my pastor. Pastor Owens has been instrumental in allowing me to develop my God given gift of writing.  I have written and performed several plays in local churches. My first drama, "God Who Needs Him" won first place in a Young Writers Contest.  Recently I created a monthly newsletter entitled, "Blessed to be a Blessing" to share God's goodness with the world.

As I serve God in the avenues he had opened to me as an Inspirational Writer, Motivational Speaker, Teacher and Author my message to the world is, "With God all things are possible."

Before I began writing Living Under The Influence I conducted a field study to find out if reading was a leisure activity for people and if not why not?  An overwhelming majority stated reading was not a leisure activity because they didn't have time to read and books are too expensive. Living Under The Influence is a quick and easy read that is modestly priced. Therefore , you can't afford not to get a copy.
Deborah PettisLiving Under The Influence is my first book.  It is based in Galatians 5:22-23a.  The inspiration for this book came from personal observations.

Today many people submit themselves to personal makeovers. These makeovers range from manicures to major surgery. People also spend time and resources making over their personal property such as homes and cars.  There is nothing wrong with self improving or upgrading things God has blessed you to obtain.  However, have you ever thought about getting a spiritual makeover, dedicating or rededicating your life to God's will and way.  I've heard people say, "It's my way or the highway." This suggest to me that the person needs a spiritual makeover.  When you are living under the influence of the Holy Spirit, you realize it is not your way, it's God's way.  His way will lead you to a higher way of thinking, acting, living, and giving.

The other thing I notice is not only are we in an economic recession, but many Christians also seem to be in a religious recession. During the tough times in their lives instead of drawing nearer to God, they seem to be going astray.

Living Under The Influence examines virtues a mature Christian will demonstrate daily.  These virtues are: love, joy, peace, patience,  kindness, goodness, and self-control.  I give several personal experiences and describe how God brought me through, as a way of connecting to the reader.

If you want your life to be enrich, revitalized, and spiritually edifying, you must read "Living Under The Influence." This book is available in paperback as well as an e-book and can be purchased at: www.outskirtspress.com/deborahpettis. It is also available at Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com.
