Very uniquely written. Sandra Steen's purpose in writing
Who Stole My Joy?
is to expose the “joy robbers” in our life that operate so
freely to destroy our spirit. This inspiring book is written in hopes
that you will regain and maintain the joy that life’s
circumstances may have taken from you.
Steen lists for us what she calls "joy robbers"— those things
that rob us of our joy; things such as: broken relationships, lack of
things, jealousy, negative attitudes, hopelessness, hatred,
selfishness, betrayal, fear, worry, etc.
She then lists for us what she calls "joy builders" — those
things that build up our joy; things such as: encouragement, positive
attitude, love, hope, faith, vision, appreciation, courage, peace, etc.
Each of these characters is personified in a conversational manner. We
are given a description of each and how they function to steal or to
give us joy. We choose to be happy is basically what
Who Stole my Joy? is
saying to us. We allow the circumstances of life to get the better of
us, but as Ms. Steen says in the introduction: "My Grandmother used to
say, There’s always something to take the joy out of living.
These words seemed all too true to me, but I determined in my heart,
mind, and spirit that, indeed, I would fight to keep my joy. At times,
someone would challenge me by doing something incredibly aggravating or
saying something dreadfully rude. I realized I could respond with
firmness, but at the end of the transaction, I could not leave my joy
on their counter. I understood how costly this would be."
Likewise, we must claim our joy and keep our joy. This is a life-changing book!
